Taking a break.

Hello my dears,

I write this to you on New Year’s Day 2021 from a cabin in the woods where I have retreated for much-needed rest and reflection on what’s behind me, and what I want to manifest in 2021.

And you know what? I’m exhausted.

One of my mentors, the incomparable Leticia Nieto, taught me about the seasonal cycles of activism (and I do consider Screen Time Lifeline to be an activist endeavor).

Spring is the time when everything seems possible and your energy is boundless.

Summer is when change-making efforts are on fire, the days are long, and the capacity for social engagement is off the charts.

In fall, you start to take stock, mellow out, step back, slow down, and appreciate the bountiful harvest of your efforts. But you notice some weariness.

Then winter arrives, and you are exhausted.  If you push past your body screaming for rest, you face burnout.

 …

In the past year, I have built the community of my dreams and gotten so much clearer on the mission of Screen Time Lifeline. And I had a bunch of really cool stuff planned for early 2021.

Yet there has been a slowly drawing realization that I am reaching a point of exhaustion that is not sustainable, and that if I keep up at this frenetic pace I will burn out.

And here’s the thing that Leticia taught me: you cannot get back to spring until you succumb to winter.

Y’all, I’m in winter.

Right on time for the New Year, my body is saying NO to working so hard.

So I am putting Screen Time Lifeline on hiatus until the hemisphere’s or my body’s spring, whatever comes first.

Psychotherapy is—and always has been—my first love, and I want to be rested and resourced to get my beloved clients through this darkest of winters.

Screen Time Lifeline can wait until the time when we truly have the option to get off our screens and gather in person.

This was a tough decision, but I have no doubt that it is the right one.

So much love to you,
Christina
