Election Anxiety? Take Action!
Dear friends,
Strap in: I'm gonna talk about politics for a second. 😱
The election is 3 weeks from yesterday.
It is very likely that most of your followers and friends on Instagram and Facebook don't care for Donald Trump or Trump Republicanism.
It is likely that most people who see your posts on social media share your views, not only because they're in your circle, but because that's the way the algorithm works. We see posts that are similar to posts we've liked in the past.
It's an echo chamber.
It's natural for us to want to share our opinions and information on social media when our democracy is at stake. It makes us feel less alone. I do it all the time!
But we need to remember that restating our stance on social media to people who vehemently agree or disagree with us is not going to change minds and hearts.
We are all freaked out about the election and it is easy to feel like there's nothing we can do. But there are actions we can take!
I am joining Vote Forward (@votefwd) and write letters to voters in swing states.

This coming Saturday, Oct 17 is "The Big Send" where they are encouraging us to send all our letters to voters together.
This email was inspired by a Jia Tolentino's quote from her brilliant book, Trick Mirror:
"In the absence of time to physically and politically engage with our community the way many of us want to, the internet provides a cheap substitute: it gives us brief moments of pleasure and connection, tied up in the opportunity to constantly listen and speak. Under these circumstances, opinion stops being a first step toward something and starts seeming like an end in itself.”
Don't just post on social media.
Don't just vote.
Remind everyone you know plus a bunch of strangers to vote.
We can do this!
