“Social Justice Requires Digital Justice”

Chatting With Tonye Aganaba About Digital Justice

Hi Friends:

I found my people!

As you may recall, last year I broke up with a mainstream collective of organizations working in the field of digital “wellness” over political differences related to racial and economic justice.  While I feel confident in that decision, I've been feeling a bid adrift and isolated…wondering: does anybody else share my perspective that tech-life balance is not just about individual wellness?  Because I believe that it's also about collective resistance to powerful corporate entities who are stealing our time and attention, and making a ton of money doing it,

So imagine my delight when Simma Bakare from the non-profit 1600 Avenue reached out to me to explore potential collaboration and partnership.  She had me at their tagline: Social Justice Requires Digital Justice.  I mean, pinch me!  1600 Avenue's founder, cyber security expert Frank Satterwhite, is also the Founder and Principal of 1600 Cyber a company built to "protect society and empower communities globally by using Technology as a tool…using revenues generated from their Consulting Services to enhance Diversity and Inclusion Programs, as well as to fund efforts dedicated to ending systemic racism." Um, hell yes!

When Frank and I met and started finishing each other's sentences (although that he's about 100% smarter than me when it comes to cyber security and fully admits that he's a nerd), I knew I was home.  And after my conversation about liberating our lives from the grip of surveillance capitalism with fellow 1600 Avenue Partner, the brilliant musician and activist Tonye Aganaba, I felt SEEN and held in community.  You can watch our conversation here. Stay tuned for more on my partnership with 1600 Avenue and while you’re at it, chip in to their crowdfunding campaign.

P.S. If you’ve read this far, thank you! I invite you to join my mailing list for occasional musings and updates on retreats and events. I won't spam you, or share your data. Let's start supporting small businesses on platforms they own!
